Naidoc Award Winner
Students in our school entered the Koori Kids and Department of Education NAIDOC awards competitions for 2019. Congratulations to Sam Ford from Year 4 who wrote a wonderful poem using the word “Reconciliation”. He received the “NAIDOC medal of Excellence” for his efforts. There were only 20 of these medals handed out across the state. Sam‘s poem is reprinted in the newsletter for you all to enjoy. Well done Sam.
Sport
Congratulations to all the girls who attended the Catholic Primary School's Basketball challenge in Albury. A fantastic effort to be runners-up in your division. Thanks to Mrs Seaman for organising the team to attend.
Well done to those who attended Boowora Touch Football and Netball Carnival. I heard that the day was pretty challenging in terms of the conditions. Thanks to Mrs McCarthy and the staff for their efforts.
School Improvements
Last week we received notice that we are to be recipients of a Veolia Mulwaree Trust Grant. We applied for funding for heating for the school hall. We will receive $14,000 towards the $19,000 costs. This is a fantastic help. We will be installing 10 gas wall heaters (with grills for protection against balls on sports days). We will be organising a special fundraiser in 2020 to help with $5000 school contribution we need. We also need to develop a plan on how to support the ongoing running costs. Thanks to Mr Haigh for putting our successful submission together.
Heating of the hall is part of the many ongoing works we have done or are doing at the school to improve our facilities. Soon work will begin to fix the guttering, down pipes and facia boards of music room/chapel. This past 3 years in terms of improving facilities we have put in new seating outside 5/6 and the carpark. We have installed goal posts on the oval, repainted the administration office, improved the front gardens and made a garden on the oval, renovated the staff toilets, created a playgroup & art room, renewed our signage, placed new vinyl in the foyer, bought new shelving in the library, repainted toilets and redid the toilet floor surface and put new fencing in the car park area to name just a few. We are committed to ongoing improvements of the school and we thank parents, the Community Council and volunteers who do so much work to support us financially and through their work.
Compulsory School Attendance
Regular attendance at school is essential for students to achieve quality life outcomes. Schools, in partnership with parents, are responsible for promoting the regular attendance of students. Parents or carers of children of compulsory school age are responsible for ensuring their child attends school every day. Children must commence school by age 6 and then complete year 10.
The Importance of Arriving on Time
Arriving at school and class on time:
• Ensures that students do not miss out on important learning activities scheduled early in the day.
• Helps students learn the importance of punctuality and routine.
• Gives students time to greet their friends before class.
• Reduces classroom disruption.
DID YOU KNOW - If a student misses as little as 8 days in a school term, by the end of primary school they’ll have missed over a year of school.
Please contact your child’s teacher if you questions about attendance your child to school.

The Treasurer's position for our School Community Council will become vacant in 2020. Our current Treasurer is finishing up as her last child is currently in Year 6. We are looking for someone who may be interested in taking on the role and to give time for a change over period. The School Community Council handles the finances of the Uniform Shop, School Canteen and school fundraisers (like the year book). Most of the transactions are done online and others handle the ordering for Canteen and Uniform Shop. There is occasionally some banking to do. Mrs Ronnie Ferris our current Treasurer has set up an accounting system and is very willing to share her knowledge with the new person. Mrs Kain in the office is also happy to support them as well.
The Treasurer’s role is great for someone who would like to help the school but might not be available in school hours. Most of the work can be done from home.
If you would like to know more please contact the school.
Ss Peter & Paul's students with a sibling attending Trinity Catholic College next year are entitled to a 50% CE Tuition Fee discount on your school fees.
To obtain the sibling discount please send Tracey Kain an email confirming this office.sppg@cg.catholic.edu.au
The 2019 Year Book is now at the printers. YAY!!
Please remember to pre-order a copy so you don't miss out.
Cost is $25 each.
Payment can be made through Qkr or cash to the office.

Blockers To Success and Happiness
We have been continuing to learn social and emotional skills to help us overcome social and emotional challenges or 'blockers', such as anger, anxiety, feeling down, procrastination and not paying attention.
In this week's lesson we became 'experts' on each blocker and shared our presentations with the class. In future lessons we will explore strategies to overcome 'blockers' to success and happiness.
