ENROLMENTS
We had a very successful open afternoon last week with about a dozen new families coming to look at our school. Also we have a great new link on our website that gives viewers a virtual tour of our facilities.
After some thought we have come up with a way to run our Kinder Readiness programme in Term 3. The sessions will be held in the hall on Wednesday afternoons between 2.10-3.10pm. This will allow families to stay with or drop off children and keep social distancing. Any child starting Kindergarten in 2021 here or would like to experience our school is welcome. The first session begins on Wednesday 29th July. Please contact the office if you would like to attend or know someone who would like to come along.
COVID 19
Thanks again for following our health advice. Staff, students and parents should not be on the school grounds if they are unwell and especially if they have a fever, cough, running nose or sore or scratchy throat. Please ensure your child brings their own drink bottle to school, the bubblers have been turned off. Also thanks to families who are keeping off school grounds and unfortunately if you need to talk a teacher you need to ring or go through the front office. We have been reminded by CE that we cannot gather in big groups for assembly etc. With this in mind we are having virtual assemblies twice a week. This year to celebrate Ss Peter and Paul’s Feast Day we will be having a mass on Monday 29th June by video link from the Cathedral. Instead of our usual Feast Day fundraising activities we will be having a fun tabloid in groups run by the Mini Vinnies group on Friday 26th June. This will be an out of uniform day and will ask for a gold coin donation to give to the St Vincent De Paul Winter Appeal.
A reminder that homework is online through Google Classrooms for Years 3-6 and Seesaw for K-2 students. If you need a paper copy please let your child’s teacher know. Unfortunately we cannot have worked returned to be marked unless is done through Seesaw because of COVID restrictions.
SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL
The Council met last week and discussed issues such as the school soccer club, the school’s COVID 19 response and ongoing restrictions of school activities. The council wanted to offer a vote of thanks to the staff for their efforts in organising and supporting them with home learning. All agreed that life was more manageable with students back at school. They encourage families to continue to follow health advice to schools so we can remain open. The council was encouraged by the numbers enrolling for 2021. We discussed some improvements such as new carpeting in Years 5/6 and heating in the hall. It was noted that we only had to fundraise about $600 more to cover the school’s share of buying and installing the heaters. We hope our Trivia Night will go ahead to raise the money needed. Any extra raised will be for heating costs and an upgrade of the hall’s sound system. The other main topic of discussion was the school’s finances. The council is appreciative of the Canberra’s office to help some families with school fees. We need parents to pay fees promptly so we can continue to pay our bills. The School Community meets 4-6 times a year for about an hour and is looking for new members of this group that oversee school finances, enrolments , uniforms, canteen and gives advice to the Principal. Please contact the office to find out more about joining.
2020 SPP Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals
With Covid-19 restrictions we will be making changes for the Athletics Carnival & Cross country. This year we will be conducting our Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals in PE lessons from week 5 to week 10. Each week the children in years 3-6 will take part in an event (LJ, SP, Discus, a sprint & 800m) and their performance will be recorded. In week 10 the Athletics Champion House, Age Champions and ribbon recipients will be announced and celebrated based on these results..
The Cross Country Carnival will also take place in PE lessons in week 10 for Kinder to year 6 students. Each of the children will be timed in their race. The Champion House, Age Champions and ribbon recipients will also be announced in week 10.
A letter regarding term 3 Archdiocesan and NSWCPS Athletics will be sent home before the end of term.
In these unpredictable and uncertain times we are attempting to keep any pathways open for our students that are on offer, therefore continuing to plan Term 3 Archdiocesan sporting events as per usual at this stage. This may however change and each school within our archdiocese will have a differing set of circumstances. Moving forward we have a few different scenarios that may play out;
- Schools may run events during PE lessons in order to put in to place measurements to submit times, distances and/or heights for athletics events in the case we are able to hold the Archdiocesan Athletics Carnival as per scheduled on the calendar for Term 3 Week 5.
- In the case that this is not possible, previous years’ results or Little Athletics results may be used for consideration for the Archdiocesan Carnival
- If we are unable to hold the Archdiocesan Carnival these entry times, distances and/or heights will be used for the NSWCPS (MacKillop) Athletics carnival. NSWCPS (MacKIllop) Athletics still is going ahead and will more than likely be held in Term 4.
- At this stage the NSWPSSA Athletics carnival is still going ahead at this stage
In the event that we are able to hold the Archdiocesan Athletics Carnival and CSNSW decide to cancel the NSWCPS (MacKillop) carnival we will still go ahead with the Archdiocesan Carnival as these results may still be used to progress to NSWPSSA should it still be held.
All of the above carnivals will follow the COVID-19 Guidelines from the Government for schools, sporting events and venues at the time of the event. This may result in reduced numbers and/or no spectators or parents being permitted at the event. In the event that there are no parents or spectators to be admitted and your school is unable to provide transportation for the event you may have to either transport your child or organise to carpool and drop them off and collect them at the completion of the event.
We understand that there may be some financial constraints so there is no pressure what-so-ever to compete at the Archdiocesan Carnival – it is up to your discretion and the circumstances that your family may be experiencing.
We apologise that we are unable to give any definite decisions as of yet, the circumstances are ever changing and we will keep everyone updated as to any situational changes that occur. The safety and well-being of our students, staff and parents is a priority and we intend to keep within the guidelines that have been set by the Government at the time.

Tip for parents in reducing the spread of head lice
