PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR FAMILY NAME SIGN WHEN PICKING UP FROM CAR LINE
CAR LINE PARKING RULES
A reminder to all families of the parking rules at car line. Remember, when you are lined up on the road at pick up time you are only permitted to be stopped for 2 minutes. If the line is not moving, advice from NSW Police is that parents and carers should drive around the block until they are able to enter the school grounds.
Please also remember that student supervision at car line is until 3:45pm, so arriving around or after 3:30 will help to ease the congestion at this time. It is not essential that you are at car line before 3:20pm (school finish time).
Please also remember to leave neighbours driveways clear when waiting to pick your child up at the end of the day, especially if you are waiting behind the bus stop area.
EARLY PICK UP INFORMATION
We are moving forward with lots of activities at school at present. I hope everyone had a lovely Mother’s Day & I thank Kinder for their great liturgy last week. Our Kinder Readiness Program is off and running and all Kindergarten students for 2023 are welcome to attend at any stage. I will begin formal Kinder 2023 interviews at the beginning of June. I hope the Year 6 students enjoy their camp next week. THANKS TO ALL INVOLVED FOR THE HARD WORK RUNNING THE SOCCER CLUB. I HOPE EVERYONE HAS A GREAT SEASON.
We are still dealing with staffing pressures because of Covid, other leave and absences and an all-round lack of staff to take up roles. I thank the teachers and support staff for continue to take on extra duties to keep our school running smoothly . My thanks to Mr Brown for running the school over the last few days as I was dealing with my own bout of Covid.
I will be away from May 23rd to May 27th attending various meetings. This year I am now NSW Catholic Schools principal’s representative on the national Australian Primary Principals Association (APPA) that meet once a term over a few days in Canberra. Mr Brown will be in charge during my absence.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN begins this week for our Year 3 & 5 students. As children progress through their school years, it is very important that checks are made along the way to see how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and mathematics – skills that will set them upon the path to success as adults. NAPLAN is a point-in-time assessment that allows parents and carers to see how their child is progressing in literacy and numeracy against the national standard and compared with their peers throughout Australia. At the classroom level, NAPLAN provides additional information to support teachers’ professional judgement about student progress. Federal, state and territory education ministers agreed to gradually transition NAPLAN online by 2022. NAPLAN online is a tailored test that adapts to student responses, providing better assessment and more precise results. More information can be found at https://www.nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support/.
SCHOOL FEES
Please check your school fee statements and be up to date with payments. We rely on fees to keep the school running, including paying for ongoing costs like heating and water. If you are having trouble with fee payments please contact the office as we can offer payment plans or other support.
Year 6 Camp is next week (week 4) Wednesday 18 to Friday 20 May. Remember to make payment or contact the office if you need to make a payment arrangement
If you or someone you know of wishes to enrol a child in Kindergarten for 2023 please do so online as soon as possible, as our places tend to fill fast and we have already received a number of enrolments.
Even if your child has siblings attending the school please also complete an online enrolment as soon as possible.
Please call the office if you have any questions about enrolments.
We wish all our students starting their First Holy Communion lessons all the best for the coming week. Please keep all these students in your prayers over the coming weeks.

Class Carer Program
The Class Carer Program is being established at Ss Peter and Paul’s to create new opportunities to strengthen connections between our families and our school.
Each Class is assigned a Class Carer at the beginning of each school year to assist with:
- Welcoming new families to the class and arranging appropriate introductions with other parents.
- Organising parent helpers for food donations or fresh flowers to support class families in times of need. (eg. New baby or illness)
- Encouraging and supporting the members of the class group to get involved in school events (eg Trivia Night,)
- Possibly organising gifts of appreciation for World Teacher Day and end of year thank-you
How it Works
- Each class has a designated Class Carer. (1-2 volunteers)
- Parents from each class provide their Class Carer with their email address and will become part of the voluntary communication network.
- Class Carer communicates with their Class teacher to keep up to date with class happenings, via email.
- All Class Carers will meet once a term to check in with coordinator and each other for ideas and support.
Class Carer Coordinator
The Wellbeing officer (Tory Simmons) will coordinate the Class Carers by providing introduction training and ongoing support.

From the Student and Family Counsellor
Hi, my name is Mark Holberton and I am pleased to be working with the students, staff and families at Ss Peter and Paul’s. I am here to provide therapeutic counselling to students and families and to work alongside school staff regarding student welfare and classroom issues.
When will I be at the school: I will be at the school every Monday
How can you can refer your child to the student and Family Counsellor: Speak to your teacher, complete the online referral form, or email me at mark.holberton@catholiccare.cg.org.au.
Last term, 5/6A grew butter beans as part of their Science unit. Whilst we had a significant level of crop failure (due to snails and possibly rabbits), some students were able to harvest a few beans this term. More importantly, the growing of the beans excited the students and they began to think about how they could help the environment by being more sustainable.
This term, as an extra-curricular activity, 5/6A will recycle their tough-tub planters from the beans to grow suitable winter vegetables. Seeds will be planted out next week - watch this space. We are hoping to have enough vegetables for each student to take some home.
Above and Beyond Awards Week 2
