SCHOOL PLAYGROUND IMPROVEMENTS
We received good news on Friday... We have secured a Veolia Mulwarre Grant for about $9000 to replace the shade cover over the Junior Equipment and build a new shade structure over the Senior Equipment. This funding is a good portion of the $17000 total cost. We hope we can get the shade up before summer arrives!
We are also really looking forward to our walkathon tomorrow! Money raised will be used to complete our hall upgrade project and go towards our shade cloth project.
Feel free to enter the school grounds to have a look at the beautiful Aboriginal Art Mural that has been painted this week on the hall wall. Many thanks to artist Wendy Rix who is designed and painted the mural. You can check more about her at http://www.wensart.com.au/.
The new shade & our mural is really improving our great playground space.
I have also been in talks with Catholic Education and some architects about upgrading our Kinder and admin building and the older building containing the chapel & music room. I’m looking forward to sharing some of these ideas with you. The School Community Council has been looking into this future project to keep our school modern. The present admin block was opened in 1986 and has had a few internal changes, however it needs to be made more functional to take advantage of the space we have. Exciting times for our school!
Last week we also were able to look at some preliminary NAPLAN 2022 data. We were very pleased with our Year 3 cohort results where over half the group were in the top 2 bands! Our Year 5 results were also very pleasing. The results were very good considering we had periods over the past 3 years of remote learning. I think staff and parents should give themselves a pat on the back for their hard work to support student learning.
LIFE EDUCATION
This week students have been visiting the Life Education Van. We fund attendance at the van through your school fees. Students work on follow-up lessons in class after their visit.
About Life Education:
"Life Education is Australia’s largest provider of preventive health and drug education to school children. With the help of its iconic mascot Healthy Harold the giraffe, Life Education has been empowering children and young people to make safer and healthy choices for more than 40 years.
We work in more than 2000 schools and preschools across NSW and the ACT, with approximately 290, 000 school children participating in our program each year. Our 60 specially trained educators visit students via our 44 mobile classrooms, three pop-up classrooms and our new virtual and online program.
The Life Education program provides valuable lessons exploring healthy eating, personal safety, physical activity, positive relationships, cybersafety and the impact of alcohol and other drugs. All modules are age and stage appropriate and aligned to the NSW PDHPE syllabus and the Australian school curriculum."
Parent attendance at school activities - This term because of the rising number of COVID-19 cases we have been asked by Catholic Education Head Office to limit parents/visitors at school, mainly for indoor events. Because of this directive we will not be able to have parents and carers at assemblies, masses, etc until further notice. We sincerely apologise for this turn in events and hope to be able to welcome you back soon.
Staying home when sick and hygiene requirements - Students and visitors must not attend school if they are unwell and will be sent home if they any have symptoms of COVID-19. All staff, visitors and students should at all times maintain appropriate hand and respiratory hygiene.
Household Contacts – Students are required to follow NSW Health directions when they are deemed a household close contact and must notify the school to advise they are a household contact. It is strongly recommended that a household contact works or studies from home where it is practical to do so. A household contact must wear a face mask in any indoor setting that is not their own home, if they are aged 12 years and over. Mask wearing for students in primary schools is at the discretion of the student and their families, and is not recommended for children in Kindergarten to Year 2. Where a student attends school they must undertake a COVID test prior to returning to school and may only attend school if they have no symptoms.
Communication - We will communicate to the school communities when a significant number of cases are recorded. Staff and students who are affected should comply with the appropriate public health advice, dependent on their exposure level. Staff and students who are not directly affected can continue attending school unless they have symptoms of COVID-19.
We have a new digital parent and visitor sign in portal installed in the front office. It is very simple to use and helps the office staff greatly.
Staff will be on hand to assist you when you are first using the system. Please remember to come to the front office and sign your child/ren in if they arrive to school after 9.20am, and sign out if you are picking them up before 3.20pm.
A reminder that students should not bring toys and personal or valuable items to school in case of loss or damage.
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR FAMILY NAME SIGN WHEN PICKING UP FROM CAR LINE
CAR LINE PARKING RULES
A reminder to all families of the parking rules at car line. Remember, when you are lined up on the road at pick up time you are only permitted to be stopped for 2 minutes. If the line is not moving, advice from NSW Police is that parents and carers should drive around the block until they are able to enter the school grounds.
Please also remember that student supervision at car line is until 3:45pm, so arriving around or after 3:30 will help to ease the congestion at this time. It is not essential that you are at car line before 3:20pm (school finish time).
Please also remember to leave neighbours driveways clear when waiting to pick your child up at the end of the day, especially if you are waiting behind the bus stop area.
We are busily preparing for our long-awaited school play, Superkids! The Musical!
This musical comedy has been scheduled since 2020, but had to be postponed twice due to COVID regulations. Keep your fingers crossed... we hope to finally bring this wonderful show to real audiences in Week 9 of this term.
Each major character is being played by two students. This "double cast" of actors will allow us to have a "Thursday Team" scheduled to perform on Sept 15, and a "Friday Team" who will perform on September 16. Double casting helps us to give twice as many Year 5&6 students the chance to experience the preparation, focus and excitement of live stage performance. It also allows us to say "THE SHOW MUST GO ON" if one actor becomes unwell, as their well-prepared counterpart can fill in.
The story follows young Nigella, an optimistic dreamer who suffers teasing from a goofy gang of school bullies. After accidentally discovering strange and unique Superpowers, what could possibly go wrong? Come along to find out!
Every class is involved in at least one song performance. (The Kindies are doing amazing work at rehearsals already!)
Mr. Angus is directing the cast and classes in their Drama and Music sessions while the whole SsP&P staff is pitching in to help with scenery, props, and more.
Families will be asked to help out a bit with their own child's costume preparation. These simple items (costing little or no money) will be a fun project to create together if families don't wait until the last minute, so look for information that will be coming soon.
Parent/Carer volunteers are wanted for larger costume projects that will be prepared at school over the next few weeks. Please contact the school office or Mr. Angus if you are interested in giving a bit of time towards costume prep.
We can't wait for opening night! And remember, it's bad luck to say "good luck" to an actor, tell them to "Break a leg" instead!
There are still plenty of spots available for Kindergarten in 2023!
Please get in touch with Tracey in the Office on 02 4821 3304.
If you or someone you know of wishes to enrol a child in Kindergarten for 2023 please do so online as soon as possible!
Please share the great things about our school with the wider community and help us grow in 2023!!!
Please call the office if you have any questions about enrolments or interviews.
Over the past week we have had Indigenous Artist Wendy Rix and her neice at our school painting this amazing mural on the wall of the hall, close to the basketball court and junior equipment.
On Tuesday each student and staff member had the opportunity to add their handprint to the artwork. Below are some photo's of the day.
Last week, Mrs Bush was presented with an award and a special gift from our Union representative for her 40 years with the IEU. Congratulations Mrs Bush!
Congratulations to Axl Armitt, Eden Selby and Hannah Pollard whose drawings were selected to appear in print in a book called “Being a Big Brother” as part of Naidoc Week 2022. The students were presented with a framed picture of their drawing at a special ceremony at Goulburn Square on Wednesday.

THE ASSUMPTION OF MARY
Monday, 15 August we celebrate the Assumption of Our Lady when according to our faith, the Holy Mother, “having completed her course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory”.
The Assumption signals the end of Mary’s earthly life and marks her return to heaven to be reunited with Jesus. While the bodies of both Jesus and Mary are now in heaven, there is a difference between the Assumption and the Resurrection. Where Jesus arose from the tomb and ascended into heaven by his own power, Mary’s body was taken up to heaven by the power of her Son.
Students in Years 3-6 will attend an Assumption Mass, Tuesday the 16th of August at school. Unfortunately, parents are unable to attend due to Covid restrictions.

Canteen Procedures & IOU Information
We have been getting a large amount of forgotten lunches and unpaid IOUs. This is a huge strain on the canteen manually and financially. Below are a few procedures put in place to keep the canteen running smoothly and effectively.
- How to Order – place order on the Qkr app or write order on a paper bag with cash inside.
- QKR! Orders – are due by 9.30am on the day. Please remember that you can order the night or days before. Also check that you have selected the correct day.
- Cancelled QKR! Orders - if you have placed an order and your child is not at school that day, you can cancel your order by going into “activities” and click on the minus icon before 9.30am. If you need to cancel the order after 9.30am you need to call the office or text Di on 0417 688 472 ASAP. If the order has already been prepared or made you may not receive a credit.
- No Lunch – if your child realises that they don’t have lunch before 10.00am a phone call will be made to parents. If lunch cannot be brought up to school, then the canteen can make lunch and an IOU will be sent home. If they realise after 10.00am a phone call will be made but only a sandwich can be made from the canteen no hot food.
- Unpaid IOUs – please remember to pay your IOUs ASAP, either on Qkr or cash. Please check your child's school bag for these.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A $5 LIMIT FOR OVER THE COUNTER PURCHASES AT THE CANTEEN.
Due to stock shortages and delivery issues we expect some menu items to be substituted or changed on Qkr at short notice.
Please note that some item prices might rise due to the cost of fresh produce.
Apologies for any inconvenience.
As the days get colder, please ensure your children have the correct winter uniform to wear. This includes the school jumper, jacket, beanie and scarf, and remember black tights for the girls.
There are good quality pre-loved items at huge discounts available directly from the Uniform shop to cater for all budgets.
- New uniform purchases can be ordered on Qkr. The order will be filled on Tuesdays and sent home with your child.
- If you are wanting to purchase some 2nd hand uniforms please visit the uniform shop during the opening hours.
- Students must wear Summer Uniform in Terms 1 & 4 and Winter Uniform in Terms 2 & 3.
Congratulations and Well Done!
