Dear Families,
It is with great sadness that I write to inform you that Tamilarasan and Ilavarasan Mitchell's father passed away last week whilst in India. The family has requested that I share the news with the school community and they thank us for all of our thoughts and prayers.
If you would like some support in how to manage these conversations effectively with your children, there is some great advice on https://raisingchildren.net.au/
As always, our school counselling service is available and can be accessed by following the steps on the link below:
https://mccg.my.site.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
For those who know Tami and Ila, this time may be particularly difficult for them to process and you may like to say the following prayer with your children:
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend the Sacrament of Confirmation this weekend due to previously arranged family commitments. I thank you all for your time and efforts in preparing your children to take another step in their journey of faith and fulfill their sacrament of Confirmation. Another huge thank you to our Religious Education Coordinator, Mrs Cassandra Harris for all of her hard work in upholding the Religious life of our school and coordinating all three sacramental programs with Fr Joshy and the parish this year.
I look forward to seeing many of you at our Walkathon this Friday.
Yours in faith,
Bradley Brown
Principal (Acting)
If your child arrives at school after the start of class (which is 9.20am), a parent or guardian MUST accompany them to the office and sign them via our Compass Kiosk at the front desk.
Please do not 'drop and run' at car line or the front gate.
If you do not sign your child in via the office, they will be marked 'Late - Unexplained'. The school will then issue a notice to parents asking for an explanation for the late arrival. It is a legal requirement that any absence has a satisfactory explanation, and our head office in Canberra has requested that schools follow this procedure.
TERM 3 REMINDERS - Everyday Details at a Glance
Late Drop Off/Early Pick up
- Please remember that if you are running late and arrive at school after 9.20am, parents MUST come to the front office and sign their child/ren in.
- BELL TIMES - Please come outside of these times if you need to collect your child early:
- School Start 9.20am (Supervision from 8.30am)
- 1st Break (lunch) 11.25am-12.05pm
- 2nd break (recess) 1.25pm - 2pm
- School Finish 3.20pm (Supervision at car line until 3.45)
Car Line & Parent Parking
- We remind parents that car line is the most appropriate and safest place to drop your child/ren off at school in the morning, and pick them up in the afternoon. This is a 'kiss and go' system where you should not hop out of the car. If your child/ren need help to get in and out of the car, or you wish to walk them to their classroom in the morning, we ask that you park on Prince Street (outside car line) and not in car line, the very limited staff parking spaces, or in the all day spaces on Knox Street (see map below).
- At the end of the day when you are lined up on the road at pick up time you are only permitted to be stopped for 2 minutes. If the line is not moving, advice from NSW Police is that parents and carers should drive around the block until they are able to enter the school grounds.
- Please also remember that student supervision at car line is until 3:45pm, so arriving around or after 3:30 will help to ease the congestion at this time. It is not essential that you are at car line before 3:20pm (school finish time).
- Please also remember to leave neighbours driveways clear when waiting to pick your child up at the end of the day, especially if you are waiting behind the bus stop area.
Whole & Partial Day Unexplained Absences
- Any unexplained absence reminders (for both whole and partial days) will be emailed to families on a weekly basis. Please ensure you complete the Compass absentee form via the app in a timely manner. It is a legal requirement that any absence from school has a satisfactory explanation.
- For any partial absences (such as late arrivals NOT signed in through the front office) please adjust the END TIME ONLY to reflect the end time as it is stated on your email (for example: 09.20 AM - 09.28 AM Partial Day - you will need to change the end time in Compass from 5.00 PM to 9.28 AM).
Personal Items, Mobile Phones, and Devices
- Children SHOULD NOT bring toys, personal and valuable items to school.
- Any mobile phones or personal electronic devices need to be handed in to the office before classes start and collected at home time.
Uniform and Equipment
- HATS ARE COMPULSORY EVERY DAY EXCEPT FOR THE 'J' MONTHS (JUNE & JULY).
- Please pack a water bottle for your child/ren. Bubblers are available.
- Please ensure that your child/ren's belongings are labelled clearly
- Lost property is located in the front office
We still have a limited number of places available for Kindergarten 2024.
If you know of someone who is ready for kindergarten in 2024, please encourage them to consider our school and to go online and complete an enrolment application.
Tracey Kain has emailed the times for orientation next term. Please contact the office if you have any queries.
We wish all our Year 6 Confirmation students the very best over the weekend. The Confirmation coincides with our Family and Community Mass on Sunday 17, and we would love to see as many of our Ss Peter and Pauls community there as possible.

Want to know how to pack a healthy lunch box? Check out Cancer Council’s fantastic new video.
The beginning and end of the school day are busy times for pedestrians and drivers outside schools.
You can help keep children safe by remembering the following:
- drop your child off and pick them up on the school side of the road
- never call out to them from across the road - it is very dangerous
- always take extra care in 40km school zones
- follow all parking signs - these help keep your child as safe as possible
- park responsibly even if it means you have to walk further to the school gate
- never double park - it is illegal and puts children at risk
- never do a U-turn or a three point turn outside the school as it puts children at risk of harm
- model safe and considerate pedestrian and driver behaviours to your child
- always give way to pedestrians particularly when entering and leaving driveways.
Some of our bright year 3 to 6 students are competing in the Ss Peter & Paul's Chess Finals for the top spots in our school. The final four champs will represent our school at the Northern Region Chess Competition, to be held at Mt. Carmel Primary School in Yass, week 4 of term 4. We wish all of the masterminds the best of luck and skill!
Classroom Spotlight... Kindergarten!
Over the last few weeks, we have been learning about informative texts and taking the steps to draft our ideas and facts before putting together our final copy.
In KH we wrote about Gorillas after reading the book Gorilla by Anthony Browne.
We watched a short documentary about Gorillas to learn some interesting facts and wrote what we learned into sentences. To finish it off we drew pictures of Gorillas to go with our writing.
In KW we were inspired to find out some facts about emus after reading the book Edward the Emu by Sheena Knowles.
We explored a variety of factual texts and watched a short National Geographic documentary. We used graphic organisers to plan our writing before publishing our emu facts on posters with colourful illustrations.
Presentation of Timber Plaques to the School
At our assembly last Friday Mr Smith and his boy's group presented the school with the engraved timber plaques they have made during their sessions.
The plaques were made using a timber post from our old fence, which was cut into slabs. The boys then spent their sessions refining their slabs, and took them to Reardons Woodwork shop to have the engraving done.
Well done boys, and thank you to Mr Smith for his time and expertise!

My name is Madi and I have been a part of the Catholiccare Student and Family Counselling team since 2022. I am available at Ss Peter and Paul’s every Monday.
Catholiccare has merged with Marymead during the holiday break. There are no changes to our service delivery. The only change you may see will be our official title of Marymead Catholiccare Canberra Goulburn. Please also note our email address will be updated to reflect the new organisation (eg firstname.lastname@mccg.org.au).
If your child was seen by the School Counsellor last year and you would like them to receive support in 2023, we require you to complete a new counselling registration form. New referrals will also require you to complete the counselling registration form. Questions or requests can be directed to the office, your child’s class teacher or School Counsellor (madelyn.burns@mccg.org.au).
Referral Link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
Parent consent for counselling continues to be required for all primary school students and will be sought and provided via email or phone call. Where parents are separated, we require the consent of both parents. Once the referral has been received by myself - School Counsellor - I will make contact with parents on my next day at Ss Peter and Paul’s to further discuss the referral.
