Class of the Week... 5/6A!
In 5/6A, we have been learning about Aboriginal history and culture, in particular, the use of boomerangs as hunting tools, and for sport and entertainment.
Initially, each student was given a rough sawn boomerang cut from plywood. Students then utilised their maths skills and applied concepts of symmetry and angles to reshape and bevel their boomerang. Students hand crafted and tested their boomerangs as they reshaped them with coarse-grit sandpaper. Most students noted a change in their boomerang’s aerodynamics and began to see a marked change in it’s ability to return.
During the next lessons, students will research Aboriginal art and will decorate their boomerangs with paint. Each boomerang will then be sealed and waterproofed as a finishing touch.
