From the Principal
NAPLAN
I would encourage Year 3 & 5 families to read the information contained in the PDF below. It has information about how NAPLAN is going to be reported to schools & families this year. For parents who have had children sit Naplan assessments in previous years the results are now in a 4 point scale
The proficiency scale has 4 levels:
- Exceeding: The student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: The student’s result demonstrates proficiency by meeting challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: The student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing and are approaching proficiency.
- Needs additional support: The student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
Please take the time to read the attached explanation of your child’s Naplan results and if you have anymore questions make an appointment to speak to your child’s teachers. Results should be available early next term.
CECG DIRECTOR'S VISIT
Director of Catholic Education for Canberra/Goulburn Diocese Mr Ross Fox paid a visit to our school on Wednesday. He toured our facilities where we discussed plans for future growth and the need to do some rebuilding or refurbishment of some of our buildings. He was impressed with our growth in enrolments - up 25% in the past 5 years. The second part of his visit was a discussion of the teaching and learning programme going on in our classrooms with special visits to Kinder and Year 5/6. Our school is part of a diocesan-wide initiative that has 2 bold goals – Every child needs to be a competent reader & all teachers need to use high impact teaching strategies. We are grateful to Catholic Education for their help in resourcing our school and providing coaching to help improve our teachers skills.
STAFFING
I am taking 3 weeks leave at the beginning of Term 3. In my absence Mr Brown will be the Acting Principal & Mrs Harris will be the Acting Assistant Principal & continue as REC.
I am looking forward to a little extra break & heading north for some sunshine & then travelling to Hobart to attend the Australian Primary Principals conference. I wish all a good start to Term 3.
