FROM THE PRINCIPAL
It is hard to believe that we are already into our fifth week of school and holidays are all but a distant memory. I hope your child/children have settled back into school life happily and smoothly amongst their friends and teachers, with lots of exciting learning happening. The emotional and physical wellbeing of our students is pivotal to their success at school, as adolescents, and in their future lives. Physically and emotionally healthy students are happy, able to deal positively with life’s challenges, experience a sense of connectedness with school and others, and are well placed to develop into well-balanced and successful young adults. Various programs in our curriculum and our school Mercy Values help to build these positive feelings along with physical and emotional wellbeing.
Sometimes children can experience difficulties with everyday life experiences so it is important that we try and keep these positive feelings constant at school. There are many avenues at school you can access if you feel concerned about any aspect of your child’s wellbeing: - Talk to your child’s teacher – talk to our school counsellor.
These are some ways we all can help foster positive emotional and physical wellbeing in our children:
*Model good mental health habits
* Make sure they get enough sleep
* Encourage your kids to exercise
*Encourage creative outlets
* Provide a space of their own
*Talk about their troubles
*Help them relax
*Have routines – weekday and weekend
*Foster helpfulness
* Bring fun and playfulness into their lives
Good advice for us all.
