Classes of the Week... 5/6M & KW!
This term we are very excited to be using the thinking skills programme Philosophy for Children (P4C). Our aim is to become even more thoughtful, considerate and evaluative. P4C offers a set of well researched and proven strategies for developing the art of good thinking and dialogue.
After reading the picture book ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, we took some thinking time to devise our own questions:
After discussing the criteria for open, thought-provoking and philosophical questions, we selected the following question to discuss together:
Was it a dream, imagination or reality?
Over the rest of the term we will ‘think this through’ together. We will do this by welcoming the diversity of each other’s views and use these as the start of a process that involves questioning assumptions, developing opinions with supporting reasons, analysing significant concepts and applying the best reasoning and judgement. In the longer term we aim to build skills and concepts through appropriate follow-up activities, thinking games and orchestration of connections between philosophical discussions, life and the rest of the school curriculum.
