We are halfway through Term 3 and with the many restrictions on activities our focus is clearly on teaching and learning. Students celebrated Science Week with activities centred around the “Sea”. Thanks to Mrs Yeo for organising such fun and interesting activities. Have a look through the photo galleries below.
Please note the update to COVID restrictions below. It seems each day the rules are modified. We are doing our best to comply as we want to keep the school open and the community safe. We do appreciate the support parents are showing in complying with restrictions.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
The Northern Region Public Speaking Competition will be held next Thursday 27th August from 9.30am. St Mary’s Crookwell are running the competition and students will be competing through the Zoom platform rather than in person.
Thanks to all the students from Year 3-6 who put so much effort into their speeches. Students from Year 3-6 will be tuning to watch the competition. We will also have a couple of trial runs at school to help students get ready.
This year the following students have been selected to represent our school in the competition.
Our representatives and their topics are:
Year 3- Elsie Martin, Willa Reynolds - Belonging in school
Year 4- Lexie Maple-Brown, Monet Remington - Kid power!
Year 5- Sam Ford, Ellie Thrower - Words can hurt
Year 6- Isaac Foley, Sophie Smithers - Many voices, one land
Good luck to all students!
Lexie Maple-Brown, Sophie Smithers, Ellie Thrower, Isaac Foley,
Sam Ford, Elsie Martin and Monet Remington. Absent: Willa Reynolds
COVID 19 UPDATE
Additional safety measures for school activities have been put in place to minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission in schools for the remainder of Term 3.
The following principles underpin these measures:
- Where possible, students will stay within their relevant cohort group (i.e. class, year group, or stage) for all learning activities within the school in order to limit close contacts to the relevant student cohort.
- Only providers that are essential to the delivery of curriculum can continue to provide services and programs until further notice.
- Students and staff with flu-like symptoms will need to provide a copy of a negative COVID-19 test result before being permitted to return to school.
- Parents/carers and other non-essential visitors are not allowed on the school site. Parents cannot walk through the school grounds. You must come via front gate to access the office.
SCHOOL COMMUNITY COUNCIL
The School Community Council met last week and discussed a range of topics. The Council urges parents to park carefully in Princes Ave and allow for cars to be able to pass. Parents need to keep children close as they cross roads and get into cars in this area.
The Council were pleased to see our enrolments strong for 2021 with over 40 students enrolled in Kindergarten. We looked at the school budget and collection rates of school fees. We want to thank parents for their efforts to keep up school fee payments in these tough economic times. We are also appreciative of Di’s work in the canteen and parents support that keeps our canteen viable. There maybe some limits placed on uniform purchases in the future as there are delays in manufacturing and delivery of some parts of the uniform.
Our council has vacancies and is always looking for new members. It meets 4 times a year and it is important advisory group to the Principal. The Council looks at school finances, enrolments and maintenance needs. If you are interested in finding out more give me a call.

Pyjama Dress Up Day for St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
This Friday 21 August we will be having a 'Wear Your PJ's to School' day. Students are encouraged to come dressed appropriately in pyjamas and bring a gold coin donation for the St Vincent de Paul's Winter Appeal. As the weather is harsh at the moment, students will still very much need to wear adequate footwear - it is recommended that they wear their normal school shoes on the day.
Unfortunately, due to the latest COVID restrictions as at 19/8/20, students from different schools are unable to mix in sporting related activities. As a result we will not be able to participate in the Cricket Gala Day on the 16th September. We hope to organise Cricket NSW to visit our school in term 4 to run some fun cricket activities.
Students in Year 3 & 5 will be participating in some practice NAPLAN tests in Reading and Numeracy. These tests are run by our head office. The tests are low key and the results will be for teachers only to give direction for future learning.
The information will be added to other results we gain from standarised testing to complete a picture of student learning at this time. Students will be doing these tests in Week 7 and will receive the usual supports they need in the classroom environment.
We would like to advise that School Banking is back up and running. The banking day will be on Thursday.
Creative Welfare Project for Meals on Wheels
Hello, my name is Tory Simmons. I have taken up the new Welfare Officer role at Ss Peter and Paul’s Primary. I am here to provide strategies and opportunities that support the wellbeing of our students and the wider school community. I am available Thursdays and Fridays throughout the school term. If you have any queries please feel free to contact me tory.simmons@cg.catholic.edu.au.
Our first creative project is working in small groups to prepare desserts for the local Meals on Wheels. We delivered our first batch of Mars Bar slice to the Meals on Wheels volunteers last week. We have had a call from a lovely elderly lady who recieved a package of the slice and she just wanted to let us know how delicious it was and how much she appreciated the time and effort that the students have put into providing it for her.

The Uniform Shop is taking orders online through QKR. Please place your order by 8:30am Monday mornings to ensure that orders can be filled and sent home.
Due to the current circumstances, please note that parents cannot enter the uniform shop; please wait outside the door. The shop is open on Monday mornings 9-9:30 if you need to purchase directly.
Please ensure all clothing is labelled. We have a large amount of clothing in lost property.
The P&F met in person and via Zoom on Thursday the 6th of August.
Due to the ongoing restrictions imposed by NSW Health due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the P&F decided last week to postpone the Trivia Night that was scheduled for Friday 23rd October 2020. The current rules for patrons in venues such as the Goulburn Workers Club do not allow for the style of trivia night that the P&F would want to deliver. Please contact the office to arrange refunds.
Events such as school discos are not classified as a necessary school event. In the best interests of student health and safety, these are also being postponed until the health advice permits otherwise.
I would like to thank the current P&F for their planning, flexibility, understanding and ongoing support this year. Despite many events being cancelled or postponed, the P&F remains positive and enthusiastic about possible future events.
