TRIVIA NIGHT

• Our school Trivia Night will be held on Friday the 20th of August at the Goulburn Workers Club, 4 rounds of trivia followed by dancing and karaoke (Covid restrictions permitting). Start getting your tables of 10 ready, tickets will go on sale the first week of Term 3. We will be having a wine raffle, a lucky door prize and silent auctions. It is a fun night, we hope to see you there!

EARLY PICK UP INFORMATION

• First break (lunch) is from 11:30am to 12:10pm, and second break (afternoon tea) is from 1:40pm to 2:15pm. If you need to pick your child up from school early please try to do so outside of these times as it can be very difficult to find a student during break time in the playground.

CAR LINE PARKING RULES

• A reminder all families of the parking rules at car line. Remember, when you are lined up on the road at pick up time you are only permitted to be stopped for 2 minutes. If the line is not moving, advice from NSW Police is that parents and carers should drive around the block until they are able to enter the school grounds.
• Please also remember that student supervision at car line is until 3:45pm, so arriving around or after 3:30 will help to ease the congestion at this time. It is not essential that you are at car line before 3:20pm (school finish time).

KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENT 2022

• If you still have to complete and enrolment for your children's sibling for Kindergarten in 2022, please go to the school website and complete the online enrolment form ASAP. Please also contact the office to arrange an interview time.

• Our Kinder Readiness program is currently running each fortnight in term 2 & 3 for any child preparing for kindergarten in 2022. Children are welcome to come along regardless of which primary school they will be attending.

This weekend, nine students from our school will make their Sacrament of First Holy Communion. We pray for Eva Lowe, Sophie Mills, Madeline Blake, Isabelle Holmes, Isabelle Howard, Amelia Foley, Amelia Hore, Ella Webster, Lachlan Ashley-Jones and Riley Lucas. 

A huge thank you to our Stage Three teachers and students for our Pentecost Liturgy today. The Stage Three team worked diligently to deliver an exceptional liturgy that was reverent, respectful and engaging.

An extra thank you to all involved in using their knowledge of Pentecost to create the artworks and three-dimensional Fruits of the Holy Spirit.

My thanks for all the volunteers who have helped with school events including the athletics carnival, disco, each week for soccer training & games and the walkathon. Your help is vital for these events to go ahead. You set your children a great example that helping out is an important thing to do. You get to meet other families and make great friends as you travel through important events together with your children. So I encourage put your hand up to help out; it is really appreciated.

EVERYDAY MATHS

The New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) has launched a new digital hub, Everyday Maths. The videos, games and interactive activities have been co-designed by NSW teachers and tested by parents and carers to offer practical tools that shine a light on maths in everyday life.

Parents and carers can choose activities to best suit their child by using the year group filter. The aim of the hub is to give parents and carers a trusted place to go to get started, to build their confidence with maths, to support them in connecting with their children through maths, and empower them to foster skills in their children to find problems, to solve problems, to notice and to wonder about mathematical ideas that surround us everyday.

AUSTRALIAN vs NSW CURRICULUM - ARE THEY DIFFERENT?

The recent release of the new draft Australian Curriculum has received considerable media coverage. We thought it may be beneficial for parents and carers to understand the relationship between the Australian and NSW Curriculum, the bodies that develop them and their respective reviews.   

Sometimes the words "syllabus" and " curriculum" are used to describe the same thing. A "syllabus" is what could be taught in each learning area while "curriculum" is the big picture describing everything that is taught in schools. In NSW, exams and assements are based on the course syllabus rather than the curriculum.

A student attending school in NSW will be educated in accordance with the NSW Curriculum, which draws from and is informed by the Australian Curriculum. 

Both the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and the New South Wales Education Standards Authority (NESA) are independent statutory authorities. Each has a specific remit in respect of the education of children and young people.

From 2010, NSW joined with the Australian Government and all other states and territories to develop an Australian Curriculum. ACARA has responsibility for developing the Australian Curriculum.  

Implementation of the Australian Curriculum is the responsibility of states and territories.

NESA has legislative responsibility, for setting, monitoring and implementing  Kindergarten to Year 12 curriculum for all NSW Government, Catholic and Independent schools. 

In consultation with key stakeholders, NESA determines the timeline for syllabus development for each key learning area and the subsequent implementation of syllabuses in schools.

Simply put, NESA ensures that the NSW Curriculum incorporates matter from the Australian Curriculum into the syllabus for each subject.

All Semester 1 reports will be sent electronically via the Compass app and registered parent emails. If you have not registered for Compass, please check for how-to instructions in previous newsletters. We will have drop-in parent information sessions in the school library on Tuesday 15/6 and Wednesday 16/6 from 2pm-4pm to help set up access to Compass.

The Tell Them From Me Parent Survey is anonymous, voluntary, and easy-to-use. It is based on a comprehensive questionnaire covering parents’ perceptions of their child’s experiences at home and at school.

Insights into parent and staff communication, activities and practices at home, and parent voice on the school’s support of learning and behaviour all build an accurate and timely picture that schools can use for practical improvements.

Personal Development, Health & Physical Education

During Term 2, Yr 3 & 4 classes cover the part of the PDHPE curriculum dealing with the development of the body. It is done at an age appropriate level with students learning the correct terms for their body parts and an introduction to puberty. Students are reminded that our bodies are a gift from God and we should look after them. Students also cover important Child Protection Information. If you would like to know any more about the content covered please contact your child’s teacher.

There will be no lunch orders available this Friday 4th June due to the Walkathon Sausage Sizzle. All students will recieve 1 sausage in bread, but please pack extra food if you feel they will need it. The canteen will be open for over the counter sales only.

The canteen is looking for helpers. Please contact the office if you are interested.

Please note, if you order a frozen product in your child's lunch order they will need to take the bag to Mrs Bennett in the canteen to collect it.

Our order for size 6 boys grey pants is delayed due to our supplier being in lockdown. We don't have an estimated date of arrival so if you need pants please shop locally at places like Target and Best & Less. Please also let us know if you wish to cancel your pants order and keep the amount as a credit with the uniform shop.

Students must wear Winter Uniform in Term 2 & 3. ALL winter uniform items are now available to buy. There are also lots of pre-loved, budget-friendly items available to purchase.

The Uniform shop open time is on Tuesday mornings, 9-9:30am. Please come in at this time if you need to try uniforms on or wish to buy second-hand uniforms. All uniform orders on Qkr! will be filled at this time each week and sent home that day.

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR SERVICE

This year school counselling will be available all day on Mondays. School counselling is offered to help students cope with stress, emotional and behavioural issues, mental health difficulties, and improve students' overall well-being. To engage with school counselling the online referral form will need to be filled out and this can be done on a mobile phone. KH Explores The Church with Art!

The students of KH have been creating Churches in the style of author/illustrator Eric Carle. This project has combined many art skills like colour mixing, cutting with scissors and collage design. We investigated stained glass windows, cathedrals, tiny churches, and even gum trees to imagine our pictures before making them. We have been learning names and properties of geometric shapes as well. These will be proudly displayed near the office soon. But is "The Church" just a building? We will be making tiny people next, to answer that question!
