- Northern Region Swimming Carnival, Yass
Welcome back everyone to 2022. We are now no longer COVID SAFE but COVID SMART (love the government’s new spin). The year began with our swimming carnival and many new enrolments across the school. I hope you will make these families feel part of our school community. This year we have 12 classes and over 280 students enrolled. If you know of families looking for a school in 2023 they need to get in quickly.
COVID 19
Under the guidelines for schools, parents & carers can enter school grounds for a short time at the start of the term to help students settle into classes. They must be conscious of social distancing requirements in buildings. Starting from Week 3 (Monday 7 February), we ask parents to use our two entry points (car line & front gate) to pick up & drop off students. Kindergarten students will be walked to these points, as well as bus lines, from this date.
If you haven’t picked up your child’s RAT test please contact the office. Each Student will have enough tests until Monday 14 February . Arrangements will be made to hand out more tests when supplies arrive. Please check the daily Compass notifications for advice about notification of positive tests and isolation rules.
NEW STAFF
A special welcome to new staff Mrs Brown in Year 1 and Mrs Neville who will be doing some teacher relief on Mondays. Mrs Brushaber will be joining the staff 3 days a week as a Classroom Support Assistant. Also welcome to Mark Holburn who is our new school counsellor. Further information about the counselling service is in this newsletter.
School hours are from 9.20am to 3.20pm. Staff supervision begins at 8.30am, with car line supervision until 3.45pm & bus line until the last child is picked up. If you need your child to be here outside of these hours please ring the office to make a reasonable arrangement.
Please take care in the car line and be aware of the rules that apply to traffic on Princes Ave. Many people received traffic fines in that area last year. Later in the newsletter there is a diagram to study about traffic & parking restrictions in that area.
Please ensure your child brings a hat for outside play and a full water bottle for the day to limit their contact with the school bubblers.
I encourage you to keep in touch with your child’s teacher by email. You can find this on Compass by typing in the teacher’s name and clicking the link. Please be respectful of staff hours and allow a period of time for teachers to reply. If the matter is urgent let the office know and they will bring it to the teachers attention.
We are looking forward to a great 2022 and please all keep safe.
CAR LINE PARKING RULES
A reminder all families of the parking rules at car line. Remember, when you are lined up on the road at pick up time you are only permitted to be stopped for 2 minutes. If the line is not moving, advice from NSW Police is that parents and carers should drive around the block until they are able to enter the school grounds.
Please also remember that student supervision at car line is until 3:45pm, so arriving around or after 3:30 will help to ease the congestion at this time. It is not essential that you are at car line before 3:20pm (school finish time).
PLEASE DON'T PARK ACROSS DRIVEWAYS
Please remember to leave neighbours driveways clear when waiting to pick your child up at the end of the day, especially if you are waiting behind the bus stop area. Please see the below image which details some of the road and parking rules that can incur fines.
EARLY PICK UP INFORMATION
First break (lunch) is from 11:30am to 12:10pm, and second break (afternoon tea) is from 1:40pm to 2:15pm. If you need to pick your child up from school early please try to do so outside of these times as it can be very difficult to find a student during break time in the playground.
SCHOOL TRAVEL/BUS PASS APPLICATIONS
- Students who need a school travel pass for 2022 can apply now. A new application will need to be submitted if:
- they are applying for a school travel pass for the first time, or
- they are requesting an additional travel entitlement as a result of a new shared parental responsibility situation (e.g. joint custody)
- Students who change address, school, campus location, or who have repeated a year or received an expiry notification from Transport for NSW for their school travel entitlement should renew or update their details.
Please note that the PBC Bus #7 will not be running down Carrick Road until further notice due to the bridge upgrade.
Please call PBC Buses on 4821 2320 if you have any questions.
LEADERS INDUCTION CEREMONY
A special Leader’s Induction Ceremony and Badge Presentation will commence at 2:45 pm on the school grounds. Unfortunately due to Covid restrictions, we are only able to have the student leaders and their parents.
Invitations have been sent to parents with details for the ceremony.

MINI VINNIES
CANTEEN PROCEDURES FOR 2022
Last year we had an overwhelming number of forgotten lunches and unpaid IOUs. This is a huge strain on the canteen manually and financially. Below are a few procedures put in place to keep the canteen running smoothly and effectively.
- How to Order – place order on the Qkr app or write order on a paper bag with cash inside.
- QKR! Orders – are due by 9.30am on the day. Please remember that you can order the night or days before. Also check that you have selected the correct day.
- Cancelled QKR! Orders - if you have placed an order and your child is not at school that day, you can cancel your order by going into “activities” and click on the minus icon before 9.30am. If you need to cancel the order after 9.30am please text Di on 0417 688 472 ASAP. If the order has already been prepared or made you may not receive a credit.
- No Lunch – if your child realises that they don’t have lunch before 10.00am a phone call will be made to parents. If lunch cannot be brought up to school, then the canteen can make lunch and an IOU will be sent home. If they realise after 10.00am a phone call will be made but only a sandwich can be made from the canteen- no hot food.
- Unpaid IOUs – please remember to pay your IOUs ASAP, either on Qkr or cash. This keeps the prices low.
Canteen Helpers – at the moment we cannot have helpers. When restrictions ease Di will be looking for helpers on Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30am – 11.30am. Please contact Di on 0417 688 472 if you would like to know more information.
- Students must wear Summer Uniform in Terms 1 & 4. All summer uniform items are now available to buy. New uniform purchases can be ordered on Qkr. The order will be filled on Tuesdays and sent home with your child.
- There are also lots of pre-loved, budget-friendly items available. If you are wanting to purchase some 2nd hand uniforms please visit the uniform shop during the opening hours.

From the Student and Family Counsellor
Hi, my name is Mark and I am pleased to be working with the students, staff and families at Ss Peter and Paul’s. I am here to provide therapeutic counselling to students and families and working alongside school staff regarding student welfare and classroom issues.
I am a Social Worker and have been working in as a counsellor in primary schools for a number of years, I also work at St Joseph’s Primary school in Goulburn North.
When will I be at the school: I will be at the school every Monday.
Some of the issues that I can support students with include:
- Grief and loss
- Behavioral concerns
- Peer issues
- Dealing with bullying
- Difficulties adjusting
- Signs of stress and /or mild anxiety
- Signs of depression
If we discover that your child requires more support than what I can currently provide or we are not seeing the progress over an agreed set of time, I may discuss other options with you which may include a referral to a more specialized service.
How can you can refer your child to the student and Family Counsellor: Please speak with your child’s classroom teacher about your concerns first, to discuss if a referral is required. This ensures that their teacher is aware or your concerns and so we can work together to support your child.
You are also welcome to complete a referral online by going to this link: https://catholiccare.force.com/housing/s/school-referral-form
You are welcome to contact me via my email mark.holberton@catholiccare.cg.org.au if you are unsure about whether to make a referral or have any questions or concerns about your child’s wellbeing.
I look forward to meeting you and working with you.
Sincerely
Mark Holberton
Student and Family Counsellor
