As the week ends we are about half way though term 1. Parents are allowed to enter school grounds mask free. We will proceed cautiously in opening events like assemblies at this stage. We hope parents will be able to come along to our Way of the Cross celebration and Easter Hat Parade at the end of the term. I do sincerely thank families for helping us in following COVID guidelines. Our school community so far has been blessed in not having major issues with Covid. We pray that this continues and we can all keep safe. Students are working hard on their learning and I hope our focus can remain on this, our core business. We will be having Parent/Teacher Interviews in the last week of Term 1. Further details will be sent out soon.
ABOUT ATTENDANCE
The school day at Ss. Peter and Pauls runs from 9.20am (lessons begin) and 3.20pm (end of school day). Children who arrive late or leave early regularly miss out on a lot of class time when it is added up over the term or year. There is also disruption to the class when there are late arrivals and early departures. While we understand that appointments may necessitate this, leaving early can be very disruptive to a child's education. Below is some information about the impact of missing school:
How many whole days has your child missed this Semester (half a year):
0 –6 This is within normal range. A child with this attendance rate is able to take full advantage of the teaching and learning opportunities available to them.
7 – 10 This attendance rate is below aver-age. A child with this attendance rate could miss over one year of schooling between Kinder and year 10.
11 –20. This is a poor attendance rate. A child with this attendance rate could miss out on up to two years of schooling between Kinder and year 10.
20+ This is a very poor attendance rate. A child with this attendance rate could miss over two and a half years of schooling be-tween Kinder and year 10.
Partial abscences (latecomers & early leavers):
A student who comes fifteen minutes late for school everyday or regularly leaves early is missing more than you think.
15 minutes per day adds to 1 hour 15 per week. If we take this out of the Numeracy block where classes generally teach five hours per week, by the end of the year the students has nearly missed one terms worth of Maths. Can your student afford to lose this?
The same things add up if we consider this as a literacy block where classes generally have ten hours per week. The percentage is halved, but it still adds up to a student missing nearly half a term of literacy. Lateness adds up quickly!!
- Please return the Local Excursion Consent form
- If your child didn't receive their RAT's last Thursday please collect them from the front office
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR FAMILY NAME SIGN WHEN PICKING UP FROM CAR LINE
CAR LINE PARKING RULES
A reminder to all families of the parking rules at car line. Remember, when you are lined up on the road at pick up time you are only permitted to be stopped for 2 minutes. If the line is not moving, advice from NSW Police is that parents and carers should drive around the block until they are able to enter the school grounds.
Please also remember that student supervision at car line is until 3:45pm, so arriving around or after 3:30 will help to ease the congestion at this time. It is not essential that you are at car line before 3:20pm (school finish time).
Please also remember to leave neighbours driveways clear when waiting to pick your child up at the end of the day, especially if you are waiting behind the bus stop area.

SHROVE TUESDAY
Our Shrove Tuesday pancake breakfast was a huge success. A huge thank you to our Mini-Vinnies who lived out two of our Mercy Values by providing Service to their school community with Excellence. We also think they have a greater appreciation for people in the food industry. Especially those of us working under Monet's supervision, as she treated us all like she was Gordon Ramsey.
Our pancake breakfast raised $80 for Project Compassion and we are so grateful to all the parents who joined us and those who sent in money for their children to participate. For more information about Project Compassion please see attached link: https://www.caritas.org.au/project-compassion/
Spanning across the six weeks of Lent each year, Project Compassion brings thousands of Australian schools, parishes and supporters together to raise funds for people living in some of the most vulnerable communities across the world.
LENT
Last week, we welcomed the Season of Lent with Ash Wednesday Mass at Our Lady of Fatima
As an adult, Lent offers us a time to reflect on our lives and work to strengthen our relationship with God.
Have you ever been driving with a GPS and gone the wrong way? The GPS then tells you that you need to re-route and says to do a U-Turn as soon as possible. Lent is like this for us. It is a beautiful season that allows us to look at the path we are on and review if we are moving closer to God or heading in the wrong direction. We begin the re-routing on Ash Wednesday. These forty days are given to us as a gift. They are God's way of helping us to make U-turns. His voice, unlike my GPS, is gentle and full of compassion.
During Lent, we read an invitation from Jesus to come and make a quiet space in our lives and to spend time with Him. We can hear his voice more clearly in this space as he calls us gently back to Him.

As part of Stage 2 Science unit this term, we have been exploring life cycles and how some features of living things change throughout their life stages, while other features stay the same.
To explore this further, students will have the opportunity to watch the incubation of chicken eggs in our classrooms from the very beginning to the very end of the process. We have been lucky enough to have had fertile eggs delivered to us by Miss Atkinson and we feel very excited to watch them grow.
Students have been asked to make predictions about which egg will hatch first and are recording daily observations to identify features and how they are changing. This has been a very exciting project and we can’t wait to share the news about our chickens with you.
CANTEEN PROCEDURES FOR 2022
Last year we had an overwhelming number of forgotten lunches and unpaid IOUs. This is a huge strain on the canteen manually and financially. Below are a few procedures put in place to keep the canteen running smoothly and effectively.
- How to Order – place order on the Qkr app or write order on a paper bag with cash inside.
- QKR! Orders – are due by 9.30am on the day. Please remember that you can order the night or days before. Also check that you have selected the correct day.
- Cancelled QKR! Orders - if you have placed an order and your child is not at school that day, you can cancel your order by going into “activities” and click on the minus icon before 9.30am. If you need to cancel the order after 9.30am please text Di on 0417 688 472 ASAP. If the order has already been prepared or made you may not receive a credit.
- No Lunch – if your child realises that they don’t have lunch before 10.00am a phone call will be made to parents. If lunch cannot be brought up to school, then the canteen can make lunch and an IOU will be sent home. If they realise after 10.00am a phone call will be made but only a sandwich can be made from the canteen- no hot food.
- Unpaid IOUs – please remember to pay your IOUs ASAP, either on Qkr or cash. This keeps the prices low.
Canteen Helpers – at the moment we cannot have helpers. When restrictions ease Di will be looking for helpers on Thursdays and Fridays from 9.30am – 11.30am. Please contact Di on 0417 688 472 if you would like to know more information.
- Students must wear Summer Uniform in Terms 1 & 4 and Winter Uniform in Terms 2 & 3. All uniform items are now available to buy. New uniform purchases can be ordered on Qkr. The order will be filled on Tuesdays and sent home with your child.
- If you are wanting to purchase some 2nd hand uniforms please visit the uniform shop during the opening hours.
From the Student and Family Counsellor
Talking to kids about distressing news events
It’s normal to feel anxious about the news emerging from Ukraine and recent floods in Northern NSW and QLD and children can pick up on this too. So how can you reassure your child and explain what’s happening if they ask questions? There’s no ‘one way’ to go about it, and you know your child best but hopefully the tips in this link below will help.
If you’d like to talk about any of these tips or have any other concerns about your child, you can contact me via email mark.holberton@catholiccare.cg.org.au
Kind regards
Mark Holberton

We are currently accepting online Expressions of Interest for our 2022 season. You can access the EOI via:
We welcome players from other schools, so please spread the word. The competition runs from U6 through to U13s and we traditionally have teams across all ages. We also enter the female only competition which operates in U7, U9, U11 and U13. No experience necessary - just players who want to have fun with friends while playing some soccer.
We are also on the look out for committee members, coaches/managers and sponsors for 2022. If you can help we'd be very grateful!
